Metro in Alaska...

Hey everybody,

Barron and I have been having fun in the sun this summer - hiking, fishing, enjoying concerts in the park and live music around town, farmers and craft markets, visitors, and coming up next weekend the annual peninsula beer festival.

We had a surprise visitor a couple of weekends ago - Barron's corps buddy from A&M, Mike Cook, hopped a plane and came up for a visit.

Barron and Mike went fishing on the Kenai on Saturday, looking to catch sockeye (red) salmon and trout. They went with a guide on the upper Kenai for an entire afternoon. They each caught a trout and learned a lot about fly fishing. The scenery was awesome!

On Sunday, we took Mike hiking off of Skilak Lake Road. We started by taking him out on the Upper Kenai Trail for a short distance, so he could see the Kenai from above. It's a super short hike to get to the outlook, but the view is awesome!

Then, we went out on the Skilak Lookout Trail to see Skilak Lake from above. The fireweed is out in full bloom around here now and makes for even more beautiful views.

When Mike and Barron get together, they're like two teenagers all over again. It's pretty fun!

It was super windy at the top on this particular day, so we all look a little windblown. :)

After lots of hiking, we were starving, so we took Mike to the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge in Cooper Landing to eat, have some local beer, and see the Kenai River from the lodge. Of course, any time the guys are drinking together, they always make sure to side-sip.

It was wonderful to have another visitor, especially one of Barron's best buddies. Thanks, Mike, for coming up to see us. We loved having you here.

Everybody's welcome to come up anytime. It's so worth it!
