Yard Visitors and Winter Wonderland

Image
Just last week, these friends were back in our backyard... Here's the main road in town after our second snow - we got about six inches in one day... The backyard... The sunrise in the backyard... These are the moose prints in the backyard from the middle of the night. We can hear them walking around. They're so big that it sounds like they're walking on the roof! It's pretty cool!

First Aurora Borealis and First Snow

Image
We had a couple of firsts in October - our first Aurora Borealis sighting and had out first real snowfall! These were taken right out our front door... It was amazing! Our first snow... the backyard... The front yard... The frosty Kenai River at the back of our neighborhood... Our first snowman... :)

Date Night in Homer

Image
It was a beautiful Friday evening in October, so took a drive to Homer for a date night. We hit a couple of breweries, had a few beers, a plate of oysters fresh out of the bay that day, and then off to a sushi dinner at Wasabi's. Gorgeous views! Delicious dinner!

Exit Glacier Hike - First Signs of Winter

Image
We had out first snow flurries on October 22, but there was hardly anything on the ground in our area. So Barron and I decided to head on over to Seward, a couple of hours away, to get in a hike and see some real snowfall. It was also our first real driving experience on the icy, snowy roads. We did great! On the way there, we went by a normally swampy area that had already turned into an ice rink. There were people out there ice skating with their dogs running around on the ice. It was awesome! There were beautiful views on the road there... The flats are the rocky area just before the base where the glacier was originally. If you have the stamina and the time, you can walk all the way across the flats to the bottom of the glacier. Views of the base of the glacier... We've hiked to the top before, but that part of the trail was closed due to the snow and ice. It was the Jeep's first time in the snow... The sunset on the

Seven Lakes Trail and Fall Color

Image
The trees in Alaska throughout late September all the way to late October are unbelievably gorgeous! This place totally takes on a different look during the fall. Barron and I hiked out on the Seven Lakes Trail one beautiful October afternoon to check out the scenery. We also discovered the log cabin at the end of the trail that we might book for next fall. There were great views from the road...  The sunshine gave us pretty awesome views of the mountains across the lake...  All of the yellow leaves made the trail look like a postcard...  We definitely still took our bear spray because we were out aways from help... The Kenai River was also full of fall color... Then, when we got home, we saw this gal in the backyard... It never gets old! :)
