Road Trip Day 4 - Banff, Jasper, Dawson Creek, Al-Can Highway

Tuesday, July 18, we started driving through some of the most beautiful scenery in Canada. We were able to go through Banff and Jasper National Parks and then up to Dawson Creek to finally get on what folks up here call the Al-Can (the Alaska-Canada Highway).

Sadly, there had been some forest fires up in the Alberta area, and the air was filled with some of the smoke. It blocked some of our scenery, but we could still tell that the parks were extraordinary. Banff is the first four pictures with the big glaciers. Jasper is the next three pictures with the rocky peaks.

We wanted to go over and see Lake Louise, but the view just wasn't clear. We took that to be a sign that we're meant to come back on vacation sometime. Barron promised that would be in the works soon. We did get to see some mountain goats on the side of the road! :)

We drove through all the way to Dawson Creek, where we stopped at the famous sign showing that we had officially gotten on the Alaska Highway. On the way, we saw several of the bright yellow mustard seed plants and learned that Canada produces like 80% of global seed exports! Wow! the things you can learn on a road trip...

We went a little further down the road and camped out at Kiskatinaw Campground, part of the original route of the Old Alaska Highway, back when it was super difficult to traverse. We hung out and had a beer when we finally got there. For those of you who have inquired about the dogs, they slept with us in the tent. I included a picture of them snuggled with Barron. They did great, and I think we actually have some camping dogs now!
